Who We Are and What This Policy Covers

Sitemetrics ("Sitemetrics," "we," "our," or "us"), a division of Morgan Ventures, Inc., ranks websites and publishes facts about them. This Policy explains what we collect through www.sitemetrics.com, our waitlist, accounts, API, browser extension, and emails, how we use it, and the choices you have.

Information We Collect

Waitlist. If you join the waitlist we store your email address and the time you joined, along with your IP address, approximate location (city, region, and country), the name of your network, browser and device details, and the website that referred you to us, if any. We use these to contact you about availability, to prevent abuse, and to understand where interest in Sitemetrics comes from.

Accounts. Account holders provide an email address and, if they choose, a name, along with the websites, technologies, and lists they follow or save and any API keys they create. We count API requests per key. There are no passwords: to sign in, we email a one-time code and link to the account's address, and we keep a record of each sign-in (how it was made, when, and the IP address) for security and troubleshooting.

Signing in with Google or GitHub. If you choose to create or sign in to an account through Google or GitHub, that provider asks for your permission and then confirms your email address and sends us your name. We use these only to create your Sitemetrics account and sign you in. We never receive your password with that provider, we do not request access to your contacts, files, messages, or code repositories, and we do not keep the provider's access token once sign-in is complete.

Payments. If you subscribe to a paid plan, Stripe, Inc. ("Stripe") processes your payment. You enter your card or other payment details on Stripe's own checkout page, and Stripe, not Sitemetrics, receives and stores them; we never see or store your full card number. Stripe tells us your name, email address, and billing address, any tax ID you give it, the plan you chose, and the amounts, dates, and status of your payments, invoices, and subscription. Stripe handles payment information under its own privacy policy.

Contact. If you write to us, we keep what you send (such as your name, email address, and your message), so that we can reply.

Stopping SitemetricsBot. If you prove you control a website to stop SitemetricsBot reading it, we keep the website's name, when you did it, and how you proved it. The notice we receive about it also includes technical details of your visit.

Visits. When you visit our website we record your IP address, approximate location, browser and device details, the website that referred you to us, if any, and the pages you view. We look up approximate location on our own servers.

Our Browser Extension

Sitemetrics for Chrome, our browser extension, does nothing until you click its button in the Chrome toolbar. When you do:

  • Website view. It sends the name of the website in the open tab (such as example.com, or for a page on docs.example.com, that name and then example.com) to www.sitemetrics.com with your Sitemetrics sign-in, and shows what we hold about that website. It does not send the page's full address or its content, or anything about your other tabs or your browsing history.
  • Daily allowance. Each lookup counts toward your account's daily allowance of extension lookups, which depends on your plan. For this we keep a count of each account's lookups for the day, not a list of the websites looked up. Like any request to our servers, a lookup may appear in the server logs we keep for security and troubleshooting.
  • This page view. It reads the open page's own tags, such as its title, description, headings, links, images, and structured data, inside your browser. None of it is sent to us or to anyone else.
  • Storage. The extension stores nothing about you or the pages you visit. The only thing it keeps, on your device, is which of its two views you opened last.

We use what the extension sends only to show you that website's facts and to apply your daily allowance. We do not sell it, use it for advertising, or let anyone read it except as this Policy describes. Sitemetrics for Chrome's use of information complies with the Chrome Web Store User Data Policy, including its Limited Use requirements.

Information About Websites

Sitemetrics publishes facts about websites, each with its date, such as where a website ranks and what its public homepage and public records show. SitemetricsBot explains how we read homepages and how to stop it. We publish this as information about websites rather than about people, but a homepage can contain a person's name. If a Sitemetrics page shows personal information about you, ask us to remove it.

Cookies and Analytics

We use a first-party session cookie to keep the site working and to keep account holders signed in, an optional remember-me cookie, and cookies that fill in your name and email address on our contact form. We use Google Analytics to measure how our website is used; it sets its own cookies and sends Google usage information such as the pages viewed, approximate location, and browser and device details. Sign-in and other forms may use Cloudflare Turnstile to block automated abuse. We do not show third-party advertising or use third-party advertising cookies, and we do not respond to "Do Not Track" signals.

How We Use Information

  • To operate the Services: create accounts, sign you in, and provide the features you use;
  • To contact waitlist members about availability;
  • To bill for paid plans, keep records of payments, and meet our accounting and tax obligations;
  • To communicate with account holders: service notices, security alerts, and the emails you choose to receive;
  • To answer your questions, act on privacy requests, and stop SitemetricsBot reading a website when its owner asks;
  • To secure the Services: rate limiting, abuse and spam prevention (this is what IP addresses are used for);
  • To understand how our website is used so we can improve it, and to improve reliability and fix defects.

We do not sell personal information.

How Information Is Shared

Service providers. We use a small number of providers to run the Services: hosting, storage, content delivery, and abuse protection (such as Amazon Web Services and Cloudflare), transactional email delivery (Resend), analytics for our website (Google Analytics), error monitoring (Sentry and Rollbar), and payment processing (Stripe). These providers process data only to provide their services to us. We never see or store your full card number.

Sign-in providers. If you sign in with Google or GitHub, that provider knows you used it to sign in to Sitemetrics and handles your information under its own privacy policy.

Legal and safety. We may disclose information to comply with law or lawful process, to protect the rights, safety, or property of any person, or to enforce our agreements. Business transfers. If our business is sold, merged, or reorganized, information may transfer as part of that transaction under this Policy's protections.

Retention and Deletion

We retain waitlist entries until launch outreach is complete or you ask us to remove you. We retain account data for as long as you have an account with us. We keep records of payments, invoices, and subscriptions for as long as accounting and tax laws require, even after an account is deleted. We keep logs of visits, emails, and form submissions only as long as we need them for security and troubleshooting. When data is deleted, copies may persist briefly in backups before rolling off.

Your Rights and Choices

You may request access to, correction of, or deletion of your personal information by contacting us; we respond as applicable law requires. You can leave the waitlist at any time by asking us. Depending on where you live, including the EU, the UK, and California, the law may give you further rights, and we will not treat you differently for using them. If you signed in with Google or GitHub, you can remove Sitemetrics's access at any time in that provider's account settings; this stops future sign-ins through it but does not delete your Sitemetrics account or its data, which you can ask us to do.

Security

We take reasonable technical and organizational measures to protect information. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, so please keep access to your email account and your API keys safe.

International Processing

We store and process information in the United States. If you use the Services from elsewhere, you understand your information will be transferred to and processed in the United States.

Children

The Services are not directed to children. If you are under 18, or the age of majority where you live, use the Services only with the consent of a parent or legal guardian.

Changes to This Policy

We may update this Policy from time to time. When we do, we will revise the "last updated" date at the top of this document. Your continued use of the Services after changes are published means you accept the revised Policy.
